My personal abstinence list

For this Semana Santa, I will try to abstain from the following:

1/ eating meat and meat derivatives (soo glad there's no pork here in Saudi!);
2/ blogging in the office;
3/ sounding know-it-all in my advices;
4/ engaging in idle talks (in the office and at home);
5/ smoking in the office loo;
6/ judging the person's character based on what he cooks and eats;
7/ judging the person's character based on his blog;
8/ agitating an officemate or giving someone a coronary;
9/ making faces;
10/ including the words 'ochosera' or 'echos' in my daily conversation with others.

Too shallow a list huh? Believe me in saying this: giving them up is totally difficult for me. Seriously.

(I'm soo glad I have the option to break the list come April 13. Just kidding).

    I just wonder where did the church got the idea that we have to abstain on something during Holy Week? I know fasting is good for our system but shouldn't we copy the way the muslims do it during Ramadan? You know, for maximum effect. : )

    re: "judging a person's character based on his blog."

    That one really put a smile on my face. I can't do it. How about teaching me how you do it or better yet, blog about it. : D

  2. we're glad there's no pork here too! minus temptation. :P

    "10/ including the words 'ochosera' or 'echos' in my daily conversation with others."

    You use these words! LOL! We use them too, but not often as we think you use them. Because if it's hard for you to give this up, then we're thinking you really use them A LOT. haha!

    Ed,

But honestly all Catholics should. That's my personal take on the issue.

    On not judging someone based on his blog? How about don't visit them at all?!

    Honestly, the only one thing that gives me the creeps about blogging is when I see someone pretending to have a post but is just obviously begging for links. (Aahh...it's Semana Santa. I'm supposed to be saintly, Ed! Why are you agitating me?!).

  4. Nebz says:

    Sundrenched: Yes, I do a lot. A couple of Saudis in our office have now begun to love saying ochosera and our Indian Accountant always say achuchuchu too. I'm a very bad influence to mankind. But I'm changing starting this week...ech, I mean seriously!

  5. The Pope says:

    I am humbled by your personal abstinence list, to deprive yourself of things that has been part of your daily system is a difficult task that requires will and spiritual discipline.

    But please keep in mind that fasting and abstinence are two different forms of penance for a specific period of time such as during Lent.

    Fasting refers to "restrictions on the quantity - putting a limit". While abstinence refers to "avoidance of a particular item".

    If you could give up all the 10 items mentioned irregardless time and place, that is total abstinence, but should you do it on your preferred time and place, such as at office area only, it is fasting.

    The choice is yours, God will ultimately bless you in your penitential discipline.

    you smoke nebz?

    Anyway, semana santa na pala, we have easter too, pero wala kami ng holy week.

    Thanks for the reminders, this is the time to reflect...

  7. ayos na naman ang banat natin ah..he he he...pwede naman daw mag judge eh...basta makakatulong..he he he.:)

  9. Nebz says:

    Salamat po sa dalaw.

    The Pope: I feel rebuked and I totally agree with your points. I am more humbled by your comments. I will hence fast from those 10 things. At sa tulong ng Diyos, I pray that I can abstain from them.

    Kenji: I do. Nakakahiya no? It's manifesting na nga already. I can see na the peleges on my face. Huhu. I hope one day to finally quit smoking.

    Ever: Simon Nebz talaga? Tagal sundan ng yakap post mo a.

    Mightydacz: Natawa ako sa comment mo. Oo nga no. More of a penitensya na nga pala ang buhay d2 sa Saudi. Nakarma talaga sya?

  10. Nice list! heheheh

    Maybe I could just follow your list myself. it's good thing to abstain from the things we like to do to concentrate on the Holy Week.

    Happy, happy Holy Week to you and your loved ones, Nebz!

    1st reaction:

    Ako kaya kelan ko ide-deprive ung sarili ko of the things i loved doing pag Holy week?

Pope nga pala talaga, may 'putting a limit' at 'avoidance' pa siyang dini-diffentiate! U
