OFW as entrepinoys

Don't we all dream of owning a business? Here's a thought.
One day, we will all eventually return to the Philippines. (Hopefully) For good.

One day, the job we hold now will be gone: the project will be finished, the company will close out, the retirement bug will bite, our bones will yell enough.

Whatever the reason is, one day, we will cease being an OFW.

The truth is, the thought scares me. Not that I'm planning to be an ex-OFW soon. It's just that there are times when I feel like saying tama na to! (I'm not pertaining to my savings because, frankly, with all the emergency expenses my family underwent recently, I literally have none).

I must be so homesick, that's all. (And when an OFW is homesick, he thinks a lot!)

And so this morning when I received an email from a friend that he opened up a small business in their area (a food franchise of some sort), it got me thinking that maybe I should also do the same. Maybe, I also need to make plans, take risks and be an entrepreneur. (As if it's that easy).

And so I went to revisit my old, old plans. Even before long, I've always wanted to open up a food stand either near the Antipolo Church or inside the Antipolo public market. Here's my old seed thought:

But because I'm a 'ningas-kugon', my plan never went beyond the cells of Excel. Hay buhay. (Although I kept saying to myself that I should dig the well before I get thirsty, the truth is I haven't even bought a shovel to dig my well with. Sore.).

I'm sharing with you a link to an Entrepinoy site which is literally flooded with inspiring ideas. Perhaps one of you may have the making of a successful entrepinoy.

I have a dream. And I hope it doesn't stay just a dream for long.

(If there's Bonamine for being seasick, why can't they think of something for being homesick?)

I agree, we tend to think a lot and randomly when homesickness attacks (even it doesn't heehee). My officemates and other OFW friends were discussing the other week about different scenarios, including migrating, retirement, etc. It's really scary to think of the start up phase of venturing into something new. But I believe it's worth taking the risk. But when? =)

I'm not a good entrepreneur. dahil siguro takot ako sa utang. pero worst comes to worst baka pagbalik ko sa pinas, i will still be an office staff.

Hindi nga siguro ako yayaman. :(

(sigh)

I'm so glad to know that in the middle of the global financial crisis, EntrePinoy has been very determined and optimistic in pursuing such programs/ideas.

I am not a good entrepreneur, pero sa tingin ko balang-araw magkakalakas-loob din akong mag-initiate at mag-take ng risk para mag-negosyo. Sa ngayon, Global Pinoy muna.

    Huh!

Thanks for sharing the link, I will take a serious study on it this afternoon.

Before, OWWA is conducting Kabuhayan 2000, a project of Pres. Ramos for OFWs, an entepreneur seminars, I have attended once, marami kang matututuhan sa pagtatayo ng business.
Kaya lang natigil when Pres. Ramos terms ends.

I hope our next leader will be able to provide tangible support and reforms to our returning OFWs.

    Hehehe

si mama.. ofw dati... ayos naman daw siya eh.. yun nga lang kapag sinusumpong ng homesick eh nagiging sobrang emotional siya... hindi naman kami masyadong close simula ng naghiwalay sila ni dad tz nagpasya siya na mangibang bansa.. mahirap daw yung nahohomesick ka tapos wala kang magawa kundi mag isip kung ok lang ba sila? ano na kaya ginagawa nila? kelan ko kaya sila makikita? kaya yun, umuwi siya dito sa pinas tapos nag negosyo ng patahian... umoorder nalang sakanya yung mga business.. she designs the clothes, she chooses what kind of fabric ang let the hired workers sew them.. hehehehe...

the business is doing pretty well right now... tiyagaan lang talaga... :)

I think being an entrepreneur is the best job in the world. It really takes courage to start a business. I believe you can realize your project as soon as you decide on it.

Well, the only cure for homesickness is to go home for a small holiday :)

  13. Niqabi says:

ako rin nung bagong dating ako rito i used to have an excel plan of savings naman. Dapat buwan buwan may masisave ako. Pero like you dahil nga may mga emergencies and the like ayun di nasunod.

I'm not in the position to advise regarding homesickness kasi mas matagal ka na pong OFW compared to me pero wag po masyadong magmukmok at mag-isip ng mag-isip. Go out with friends..hehehe kaw din magkakawrinkles ka niyan ng super dami.. :P

I've took "feasibility study" as a subject but until now wala akong ma-isip na magandang business venture na angkop sa aking kakayahan. Time is running out!

  15. Sardonyx says:

How I wish we could all have the spirit of an entrepinoy!
