Lulu Center in Alkhobar sells Pinoy
The latest shopping mall to open in Alkhobar is Lulu Center, a stone's throw away from the International Philippine School of Alkhobar (IPSA).
Indians mostly frequent the place (it's Indian-owned center I heard), but because the mall sells various items at a guaranteed low price, it also is popular among kababayans who are due to leave for vacation. (Dove soap for example, which is my favorite pasalubong, sells 20 halala lower than in other groceries in Alkhobar).
They sell other Filipino products like Mamasita flavouring, Marca PiƱa soysauce, and Datu Puti vinegar. What surprised me the most are these:
Tosilog: Chicken tocino, fried rice and egg. You just have to microwave it for a couple of minutes because it's kept in a cool stand.
And they have tapsilog too as well as longsilog!
This came to me as a surprise. Ulam at Lulu Center?! My officemate swore the Duck Adobo sa Gata is to die for. Half a kilo feeds two.
Paying cooked food per weight is new to me. Although it looked pricey, it really is the same as 'takal', or maybe even cheaper. We tried the kalderetang kambing, and it really was delicious.
Cool, eh. As far as I know, Lulu Center is the only shopping mall which sells these Pinoy viands.
Cassava cake
Maja blanca: a corn-based dessert.
Puto of various colors: even in green and pink!
Nah. They're herbs and spices, some of which grow wildly and free in the Philippines.
Did you know that oregano can deliciously flavour your pasta, or your grilled meat? The herb sells at SAR6 per pot in Lulu.
(PS: I took these photos last month. So don't mind the 'best before' date. Lulu Center only sells freshly-cooked food).

yes its true LULU owned by an indian.even here in qatar kabayan are very much delighted to shop in this grocery bukod sa mura puro fresh pa....even thier electronic are not expensive compare to carrefour.
Kung Indian ang may-ari, baka Pinay ang misis. : )
Pag ganyan ba naman ang mga ulam, e di bibili nalang kami ng "por kilo". Sa tingin ko mas makakatipid kesa magluluto pa kami.
per kilo ang bintahan nila sa lutong ulam doon.. napakarami .. di mo maubos ubos.. so you end up not buying it..
although I live in subeka.. nalalayuan pa rin ako.. so sa farm 9 na lang ako namimili.. pero okay naman ang price at fresh talaga ang mga binibinta!
It only show that there's a lot of Filipinos in that part of Saudi Arabia.
At nagutom ako bigla 'nung nakita ko dyan yung Caldereta at Pancit. Yummy!
They have 3 big stores here in doha at majority ng staff nila ay mga Pinoy. It's correct, it is owned by an Indian national. One of its branh, Lulu Center is just a stone throw from my villa residence.
Their prices is lowest Doha market and you'll find buying cooked food "by kilogram" is much cheaper.
I wonder when we'll ever have such a shop here in France!
Suki ako ng Lulu Center dito sa Abu Dhabi. They have several branches, too. Nakakatuwa yung section na may lutong pinoy. I am not sure if available din dyan yung kare kare, halayang ube, etc. Wala akong napansin na kalderetang kambing sa branches dito.
hello Nebz, kumusta na! Im back. Dito sa Dubai, you can finds almost all of the FIlipino stuff and pork is widely available in many authorized supermarkets. Herbs? I love herb dito na ng ako natuto gumamit ng herbs sa food, I love mixture of oregano and basil in my pasta and pizza.
Nice naman ang Lulu Center dian... nakakatuwa nga ang per kilong ulam hehehe,
At ang maganda available ang pinoy food na para ka naring nasa pinas!
