Colorful Wafra Farms in Kuwait
From Animal Farm by George Orwell
He snuffed in every corner, in the barn, in the cow-shed, in the henhouses, in the vegetable garden, and found traces of Snowball almost everywhere. He would put his snout to the ground, give several deep sniffs, ad exclaim in a terrible voice, ‘Snowball! He has been here! I can smell him distinctly!’ and at the word ‘Snowball’ all the dogs let out blood-curdling growls and showed their side teeth. The highway to Wafra Farms is almost deserted until you reach a roundabout where you'd see lines of private farms with huge green and farmhouses. It's a surprise that in the middle of a desert, the Kuwait farmers manage to produce edible crops and decorative plants (more of a latter, really). I noticed that most of the boxed vegetables (except maybe for the green veges and tomatoes) being sold in Wafra Farms are not locally produced. They're priced lower than in the city market because Wafra Farms is the distribution center of veges in the Eastern part of Kuwait.
In Abu Dhabi, most of the fruits and veggies being sold in the market are imported. Except for the dates, I don't know if there are other homegrown products. But at least the poultry and other livestock are locally nurtured.
Here in Malaysia, all fruits and vegetables are fresh.

@Jo: I would surmise it's true considering that all of Dubai's being converted into tourist destinations. But I will not be surprised kung mayroon ding greenhouses sa Dubai because they've the same weather conditions as Saudi and Kuwait (and Kuwait, I noticed, is a notch or two worse than Saudi).
@Eoz: Visited your site. Hope you can also contribute to Kablogs Literary Journal (see link below my page). Thanks.
